MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – We’ve had some nice temperatures for the first few days of October, but today we’ll be back to summer warmth for the start of the weekend.

It won’t last long though, a cold front will sweep through tonight and bring temperatures back to fall standards for the first few days of the new week.

What’s Coming Up…s

Saturday will be sunny and warm, with temperatures climbing into the lower 80s this afternoon. We’ll get there with the help of strong winds pulling in warmth from the south. Most of the day will be windy, with gusts around 30 mph at times this afternoon. It’ll be a tough football game for the kickers today!

Some clouds will move in this evening as a cold front approaches. There will be the chance for a stray shower or two, especially north of Madison, around midnight. Winds stay strong, shifting out of the west. Temperatures will be in the mid and lower 50s by sunrise on Sunday.

Though skies will be sunny tomorrow, we won’t warm up too much. Temperatures will stay in the middle 60s in the afternoon, with persistent winds this time coming from the northwest. Wind gusts will be around 30 mph again. I wouldn’t bother doing any leaf raking this weekend!

Looking Ahead…

The winds will finally die down on Monday, and temperatures will stay seasonable in the middle 60s. Temperatures will gradually begin to warm up through the week: we’ll be around 70° on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs back around 80° by Friday.

Sunny skies will dominate the forecast and it looks like we’ll continue to stay dry. The weather this week looks to be cool enough to help the progress of the fall colors across the state, so next weekend may be a good one for a drive up north!
