After the bitter 0-1 defeat in Basel, neither the results nor the timing speak for the YB coach.

YB sports director Steve von Bergen avoided a direct commitment to the coach several times after the 0-1 loss at FC Basel. Can Patrick Frame still be retained? «We certainly won’t talk about the coach now. Now comes the national team break. This gives us time to analyze everything with a certain level of calm.” On Wednesday, Frame would celebrate an anniversary: 100 days in office. It is unclear whether this will happen.
The rumor mill was further fueled by the fact that, according to observers, Von Bergen met with assistant coach Zoltan Kadar in the catacombs immediately after the defeat in Basel. It was a decent performance from Bern. But as so often this season, the killer instinct that had led the Young Boys to the championship title so often in recent years was missing from the attack. And the defense once again had to be defeated by a set piece.
The fact that an unnecessary and unfortunate situation – Sandro Lauper was only convicted of a swallow after VAR intervention before he was sent off with a red card a short time later after a serious foul – significantly changed the course of the duel seemed almost symptomatic from Bern’s perspective.
Frame didn’t even question the correctness of the red card. Rather, he relied on slogans of perseverance (“I saw a team that lives and stands up for each other.”).
Hardly any points, many goals conceded, poor discipline
The fact is that the numbers don’t exactly support Coach’s framework:
- The champions are in this Super League season after 9 rounds with 5 defeats and only one win. They never went without conceding a goal and are currently in last place.
- Frame achieved a modest points average in 15 matches across all competitions 1.2 meters. The goal difference is 29:29 – with 10 of the goals scored in the first cup round coming against Printse-Nendaz.
- There is also a lack of discipline: In 15 competitive games, a YB player flew in four cases from the field.
It is also a fact that the national team break is a popular time to make personnel changes to the staff. Christoph Spycher’s leadership has just under two weeks to make the groundbreaking adjustments.
After the Nati break, a game every 3 days
This is followed by the absolutely mammoth program: from October 19th, the Young Boys will be challenged seven times in competition in the league and Champions League within 22 days. A competitive game every three days – there is hardly any time for the really big measures.
It is therefore extremely questionable whether Patrick Frame will still be on the sidelines in the duels with leader Lucerne and championship co-favorite Lugano as well as the “premier class” hit at home against Inter Milan.
