Tuesday promises to be Portland’s sunniest, warmest day of the week; highs near 78

Portland will start October with some high clouds dotting the sky in the morning, but by the afternoon we’ll see sunny skies and temps reaching into the upper 70s.

Tuesday should be Portland’s warmest day of the week as a high of near 78 is likely. The rest of the week will feature more cloud cover and even the chance of some light showers by Friday.

The National Weather Service says models agree on a weakening front moving into the region later Tuesday bringing heavy cloud cover and light showers to the coast by the afternoon. Those clouds will push into the valleys by the evening, but no rain is expected east of the Coast Range other than a few showers in the higher mountains.

Once that front moves through, the region will see high pressure rebuilding offshore with a moderate west to northwest wind flow on Wednesday.

Portland will wake to cloudy skies that will gradually clear to mostly sunny by Wednesday afternoon. The high temp will dive about 10 degrees from Tuesday’s high to reach about 66.

Thursday will feature mostly sunny skies and warming temps. The high will reach about 75 degrees. Northeast winds may be gusty at times in areas that normally see east winds. Gusts of 10-20 mph are possible.

Extended forecasts are hinting at rain on Friday, especially in the afternoon or evening. Once that system moves through, the weekend is looking dry and mild with highs in the low-to-mid 70s.
