Inter Miami clinched their first title with a 3-2 win against reigning MLS champions Columbus Crew.

The first of 2 trophies in the MLS has been awarded: Inter Miami wins the so-called Supporters Shield as qualification winners in the US championship.
Lionel Messi played a key role in the 3-2 win against Columbus Crew with two goals shortly before half-time. The Argentine made it 1-0 after a long ball from Jordi Alba and a nice individual action (45th). He made it 2-0 5 minutes later with a direct free kick.
With this success, Inter Miami can no longer be pushed out of first place in the Major League Soccer table in the two remaining rounds. In return, co-owner David Beckham’s team receives the Supporters Shield for the first time, which gives Inter Miami the home advantage throughout the playoffs.
Only one Swiss in MLS playoffs
The playoff round of 16 starts on the last weekend in October. If Miami survives all the rounds, the final of the MLS Cup, the second and more important trophy, would take place on December 7th.
Of the teams with Swiss participation, only Stefan Frei’s Seattle Sounders will reach the playoffs.
