After a first defeat against Sturm Graz (1-4) for ’s debut in the Youth League, the Bretons lost heavily against the U19s of RB Salzburg (1-5) on the second day.

This Tuesday, RB Salzburg hosts Stade Brestois for the second day of the Champions League from 6:45 p.m. In the meantime, the Brest U19s experienced another disappointment in the UEFA Youth League after a heavy defeat (1-5) against the youngsters from Red Bull Salzburg. A second disappointing rout for the young Bretons, who are struggling to establish themselves in this European competition, after the failure against Sturm Graz on the first day (1-4). From the first minutes of the match, the Austrians imposed their rhythm, demonstrating why their training center is recognized as one of the best in Europe. The young talents of Salzburg opened the scoring in the 21st minute of play and even doubled the lead in the 25th with two beautiful, perfectly executed collective actions. Phillip Verhounig, double scorer in the first period, had fun with the Breton defense twice on two services from Edmund Baidoo before the break.

A lack of experience for Brest

In the second half, Red Bull Salzburg continued to dominate by displaying technical and tactical superiority in the game. Indeed, the Ty-Zefs’ ordeal continued with a penalty converted by Zeteny Jano upon returning from the locker room to bring home the score at 3-0. A decisive passer during the first half, Edmund Baidoo added to the score shortly after the hour mark on a ball from Valentin Sulzbacher. And while Julian Husdessus, who came on the field five minutes earlier, scored the fifth and final goal for the Austrian team, Noan Géraud still saved the honor of Stade Brestois from the penalty spot at the end of the match. A big defeat which greatly showed the lack of experience of the young Bretons for their debut in this competition. All that remains is to hope that the same scenario does not happen again this evening for Éric Roy’s men.
