The earthquake this Monday morning north of Caen is confirmed by the National Seismic Monitoring Network (Renas). At 9:34 a.m. precisely, with a magnitude of 2.7 on the Richter scale. It is not surprising that despite this relatively small magnitudenearby residents were able to feel this small earthquake. The human perception threshold is reached for any earthquake with a magnitude greater than 2.
The strongest in Normandy over 30 days
According to Renas, the epicenter is located at Cambes-en-Plainecommune bordering Épron. This small earthquake did not cause any damage or injuries.
This is the strongest earthquake in Normandy in the last 30 days. The region experiences around 150 earthquakes per year. The biggest shock since the beginning of the century, however, dates back 10 years ago. A magnitude 4.9 earthquake on the Richter scale had then been recorded off the coast of Normandy, near Jersey.
