After that, it will be too late. This Sunday, September 8, is the very last day of the Paralympic Games and, by extension, of this Parisian sporting summer. A few medals remain to be awarded in canoeing, weightlifting, marathon or wheelchair basketball. Before the closing ceremony at the Stade de France, which will hold many surprises.

The test to follow

In this lightened program, the marathon events are particularly worth following, with a new course. Four races (T54 and T12 for men and women) start between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. in Seine-Saint-Denis, before entering Paris via the Buttes-Chaumont and starting an exceptional route, in front of the Opéra Garnier, the Champs-Elysées or the Invalides. The oldest member of the French delegation Rosario Murcia-Gangloff (59 years old), who participated in the Barcelona Games in 1992 before becoming visually impaired following dehydration two years later.

The French woman to follow

There she is, the main chance of a medal for the French delegation. Second best time in the series, Nélia Barbosa will compete in the final of the 200 m KL3 at 12:15. She will not even have to go through the semi-final, scheduled for 10:42 and will try to finish on the podium again, three years after the silver won in Tokyo.

And also…

  • Abel Aber also in the running. The third (and last) Frenchman of the day, also in the 200m VL3 canoe. Seventh in the series, he will compete in his semi-final at 10:56 before a possible final at 12:41.
  • The wheelchair basketball final. Netherlands-United States: this is the poster for the very last final in team sport, in women’s wheelchair basketball, between the defending champions Batavians and the Americans, record women for the number of final victories (4) at 1:45 p.m.
  • Latest medals in weightlifting. Several categories are planned for this Sunday, including the very last medal for men over 107 kg at 3:35 p.m.

The life of the Games

Certainties and more surprises? The very last of the four ceremonies this summer will take place from 8:30 p.m. at the Stade de France. 24 DJs will take turns in the stadium, including Jean-Michel Jarre, Kavinsky and Martin Solveig. For the rest, the director of ceremonies Thomas Jolly, as we have become accustomed to, wanted to keep the suspense going. With a risk of rain, as if to complete the circle.
