Seventeen new testimonies have been added to those targeting Abbé Pierre, we learned on September 6, 2024.
Seven weeks after the first revelations, Abbé Pierre, an iconic figure in France who distinguished himself through his work with the most deprived, is the target of 17 new testimonies accusing him of sexual violence, according to a report from the specialist firm Egaé sent to AFP on Friday.
“To date, it is possible to identify at least 17 additional people who have suffered violence from” of the priest who died in 2007, we can read in this report, which notably reports facts that could be similar to rape, acts that were allegedly committed between the 1950s and the 2000s.
The Abbé Pierre Foundation is going to change its name
The Abbé Pierre Foundation announced on Friday that it had “initiated” steps to change its name following the publication of new accusations of sexual violence against the priest, who died in 2007.
In the same press release, the Emmaüs movement announced the definitive closure of the place of remembrance dedicated to Abbé Pierre, an emblematic figure in the fight against poor housing and homelessness, in Esteville (Seine-Maritime).
