The independent community r/formula1 is making waves with an ambitious project that is arousing enthusiasm among Formula 1 fans.
With 4.8 million members, this subreddit has established itself as an essential space for enthusiasts, now among the top 1% of the most popular subreddits on the platform.
“Starting today, we're banning content from Twitter/X on r/formula1”they revealed on Wednesday. “We are asking all F1 journalists, creators, photographers and other personalities to make their content available on other platforms.”
They go on to explain: “This subreddit has had restrictions on what content can be posted for a very long time.”

“We had the source rating system which labeled the quality of news sites and which is still used to remove sensationalist and unoriginal articles.”
-“We also had limitations on Instagram due to the requirement to have an account to view posts. There is no doubt that over the past few years Twitter has become a source of poor quality: the requirements of connection, the influx of bots, the prioritization of content from paying users, and the promotion of sensationalist content.”
“But unlike the news sites in our source rating system, there wasn't really an alternative for Twitter. But now that viable alternatives are emerging and yesterday's proposal thread showed that the community prefers these alternatives, we think it's time to try and see how the subreddit works without Twitter content.”
This is a new initiative on how to share Formula 1 content, which does not include X, owned by Elon Musk (formerly known as Twitter).
