Formula 1 | Brown worries about McLaren : ‘Our rivals are constantly improving’

McLaren CEO Zak Brown admits it will be difficult to maintain the lead against Red Bull as the rival team is still making progress. But the American points out that the Woking structure did not really dominate the races.

“Dominant is probably not a word I would use.” Brown said. “I would say we have a great race car, but we haven’t won the most races this year.”

“We just have to keep doing what we’re doing. It’s a tough game that moves very quickly. You can move forward quickly, you can move backwards quickly. It’s a sport where all of our rivals are constantly improving. I’m not sure that there are teams that are going backwards.”

“I think what ends up happening is other teams move faster. You know, if you take the car that qualifies on pole and you leave it as is at the end of the year , it will probably be last. I think that is a testament to the excellence of all the racing teams in Formula 1.

“So we have to keep doing what we do at the factory and here on the circuit. And all the men and women are doing it. McLaren is doing a good job, but there are no guarantees in this sport , that’s why we have to keep our heads down and stay focused.”

Asked about how he experiences this domination and the continuation of its continuity, Brown explains that it is specific to each person: “I think it’s probably a mix of both, depending on each person’s personality. Mine, in particular, is a personality that’s always looking in the rearview mirror, a little nervous.”

“And then there are other people in life for whom it’s the thrill, the pursuit of victory that motivates them. So it’s probably a good dose of a combination of the two that makes everyone wakes up every day, very motivated to continue making these little progress.”
