Formula 1 | Komatsu: Gene Haas was convinced to reinvest in his F1 team

Haas F1 director Ayao Komatsu has revealed that team owner Gene Haas has been convinced to invest again in his F1 team after an impressive 2024 season.

Haas has been one of the most successful teams in F1 in 2024, relative to the size of the organization. The American team currently sits in seventh place in the constructors’ championship with six rounds remaining. She is only three points away from RB F1 and a bonus of 100 million dollars (instead of 80) if she reaches this place (read here).

And even if it remains 7th, with $80 million, the team will be much better off in 2025 than in 2024 in terms of budget. And Gene Haas is ready to invest again.

"With the current model, the way we’re organized right now, I don’t think we can do better than that – much better," admet Komatsu.

“But the good news is that Gene has always said he will invest as long as we can show as a team that we can maximize what we have. That’s exactly what we’ve done.”

“Gene has already started to invest more after three races. After three races in Melbourne he agreed on some things. We need to invest. We need to improve the team.”

“We really need to raise the ceiling of the team to be able to perform better. We need to do it in parallel.”

“Maximizing what we have convinced Gene to invest more, which is what happened. With this investment, we will gradually increase our capabilities. If we don’t do that, we will have no chance of fight for sixth or seventh place in the future.”

Obviously, Komatsu would prefer to finish in 6th place this year.

“And Gene too! Compared to the planned investments, he may not even have a check to write to us if we manage to finish 6th rather than 7th.”
