Márquez laments damage to his motorcycle due to bad fire extinguishers

Marc Márquez’s Indonesian Grand Prix was abruptly interrupted before the halfway mark, due to an engine failure on his Ducati. These technical problems have become very rare in MotoGP but the Gresini rider accepts his fate.

“It’s just an engine failure, unfortunately”lamented Márquez. “It’s not in our hands, it’s not even in the team’s hands. It happens sometimes in racing and [dimanche]it happened to me. We were super unlucky but with Ducati, my team and I, we win together and we lose together so today we had this problem but during the weekend the sensations were good so that’s the most important thing. “

Marc Márquez in me “no alert” before the engine failure, but instantly understood the problem when it appeared: “Obviously there was a loud noise on the bike and the engine stopped, but when I saw the white smoke I immediately checked.”

“In the round where I [eu le le problème]I was doing my personal best lap”said Márquez. “I was unlucky.”

When he stopped, Márquez’s machine started to catch fire and even though he was at a marshal’s station, the damage was very significant on the Ducati, according to him due to fire extinguishers which were not up to the usual MotoGP standards.

“It was a shame because the fire extinguishers they have here are not the right ones and the bike was totally damaged, at all levels, the brakes… It’s a shame for the team because for a team private, it’s a significant cost. You have to have the right fire extinguishers, or those with the latest technology, on all the tracks, otherwise you destroy the motorcycles.”

Before this retirement, Marc Márquez was aiming for a fourth consecutive podium. As he expected, he was unable to reproduce the exceptional start of the sprint, but was nevertheless able to move up from 12th to seventh place. He then entered into a duel with Fabio Di Giannantonio, who had taken the advantage before his fall. Márquez was seventh again, behind Pecco Bagnaia, and sensed a possible podium finish when he retired.

“We were in a fight in the first part of the race. We only waste time in these fights. I had the pace to follow Pecco well. My goal was this third, this fourth, this fifth place, and I “I was in control behind Pecco.”

“There was this fight with Diggia, he was a little excited. In the end he fell because he had this soft tire at the back and he was attacking at the start but it’s the race, and when we fight, that’s how it is. The most important thing is that when he fell, I found my rhythm and I was faster and faster.”
