Carlos Sainz said that being a Ferrari driver is a “very special experience”but admitted that “everything is not rosy and perfect”.
It is commonly accepted in Formula 1 that being a Ferrari driver comes with a unique pressure, with the Scuderia being not only the oldest and most legendary team in the sport, but also the F1 team most scrutinized by its passionate fans, in Italy but also in the world.
The Spanish driver, who has now moved to Williams, has spoken widely in recent months about his love of Ferrari but he also recognized that everything is not perfect all the time.
“Driving for Ferrari is a very special experience in a career.”
“It's something that, as much as I try to explain it to you, I don't think I can. I'm not very good at explaining myself or my feelings, but I can tell you that it is something very different from anything I've felt before, and I enjoyed every moment of it.”
“Sometimes it's difficult, there are things about being a Ferrari driver that are also difficult. And I'm not going to lie, everything is not rosy and perfect.”
-“So I'm going to focus on the positive aspects, which is that every Grand Prix is a kind of home Grand Prix.”
“Everywhere you go there are fans, fans, and you have the most fans at any circuit – except maybe when we go to Zandvoort, there are definitely more Dutch fans than Ferrari fans – but I think everywhere else in the world it's very special to know that everyone in the stands is in some way a Ferrari fan and wishes Ferrari the best.”
“On the more difficult side, we can obviously bring it up later, another time, to try to explain to you what is difficult about being a Ferrari driver, but I don't want to do that now, so that the adventure has only just ended and there are no negative feelings about it.”
