Pérez's father promises 'great things' for the future, in F1 or elsewhere

Sergio Pérez's father likes microphones and has become more present in the media – whether it helps his son or not – in recent months. After his escapades at the end of last season, when he responded in a crude manner to say the least to Ralf Schumacher's comments on the ex-Red Bull driver, Antonio Perez Garibay stands out this time by perhaps speaking more than his entire management would not like the avenues envisaged by the family for the continuation of the career of the Mexican pilot.

Pérez will not compete in the 2025 Formula 1 season after being let go by Red Bull Racing after a disastrous 2024 season that left many observers estimating the team's third place in the constructors' championship, behind McLaren and Ferrari, is linked to the mistakes of the Mexican.

Antonio Perez still feels in a strong position to allow his son to return to or at a high level in the world of motor sports, notably through the support of Mexican sponsors Claro and Telcel, companies owned by billionaire Carlos Slim , and who left Red Bull with the driver.

Slim could be required to support a Formula E program for someone who certainly has no driving experience aboard an electric single-seater, but who is known to excel on urban tracks.

“I never really thought about Formula E, but I can imagine Checo coming to race there”Perez's father told Estadio Deportes, when asked about the subject. “I have to choose my words carefully, but I don’t see any problem with him coming running there.”

“The championship has existed for 11 years, so it is a young category,” he continued. “Today, it is the second category in the world, but in five years, it will be the first. This is why I came to Mexico [sur la manche d’ouverture de la saison FE, ndrl]. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead.”

Sergio Perez, for his part, declared a few days ago that while he did not rule out a potential return to Formula 1, he would decide on his next departure within six months.

Formula E co-founder Alberto Longo recently said he would like to attract Perez to Formula E to give the championship a popular boost, particularly obviously in South America.

“At the end of the day, it's not the decision of the championship promoters, it's the decision of Checo and the teams, because they are the ones who decide who is in each car”recalls his father.

“Very big things are coming for the Perez family”he added. “The only thing I can tell you is that the Perez family has not given up on Formula 1”continues the one who would welcome an association with Cadillac or as a Ferrari reserve.
