Quite a few FC Barcelona fans consider that a season is already somewhat successful when once in the year, their favorite team corrects Real Madrid. It was already done this year: Barça had scored four against its hated rival at the Santiago Bernabéu in October. This Sunday evening, the supporters blaugrana had a double ration. Except for one detail: there were not four, but five goals inflicted on Real Madrid during the Spanish Super Cup final (5-2).
A slap and it starts again?
A new lesson, very similar to the previous one three months ago: ultra-fast, ultra-direct, Barça coldly punished Madrid’s defensive errors. “We applied the game plan well, like at the Bernabéu. We had to press because if they have space, they make you suffer“, summarized Jules Koundé in front of Movistar after the meeting, happy with this new resounding success, but even more so with the way in which he and his comrades achieved it.
“After the expulsion (of Wojciech Szczęsny in the 57th, editor’s note), we got together and said to ourselves that we were going to suffer and that the match could not escape usdeveloped the Frenchman. It gives you confidence to have a title. We needed it, now we have it.“In addition to the spectacle they gave offensively, the Barcelonans had the merit of not cracking in the last half hour of play, after Rodrygo revived his team with a tasty free kick. A mark of unity which will do the greatest good to Hansi Flick’s team, which we left less carefree before the break.
“Over Christmas, when we stayed home, it felt good to think about what we did wrong and what we could do betterslipped Robert Lewandowski, scorer on penalty Sunday. We know there are a lot of matches left before the end of the season and in the second half we showed that we were capable of playing with 10 men with experience.“There’s nothing like a title won like this for Barça to move forward again.

“Today we beat one of the best teams in the world and we won a title. We are very happy“, savored Hansi Flick, who also gleaned his first title with FC Barcelona. The German knows it better than anyone, the appetite comes with eating: “The goal of big clubs is to win titles. We are happy, proud, but now we must continue to show this level.“If this is the case, this Barça might not be finished with trophies this season.
