Frenchman Adrien Van Beveren (Honda) thought he would win the 5th stage of the Dakar 2025 after a solid performance over the 428 km special in Haïl. Van Beveren was ahead of Luciano Benavides (KTM) by 1’13” and Nacho Cornejo (Hero) by 2’44”. However, a 2-minute penalty ultimately relegated the Frenchman to 2nd place, giving victory to Argentinian Benavides, who finished 47” ahead.
Nice shot overall though
Despite this demotion, Van Beveren can look forward to progress in the general ranking. Initially 6th, he now finds himself 4th, just 43” from the podium, occupied by Ross Branch (Hero), 4th on the stage (+ 3’20”). This day concludes the second part of the marathon event, a stage without a hitch for the French driver, already satisfied with his regular performances.
In the general classification, Daniel Sanders (KTM), although only 12th in the stage (+11’52”), retains the lead. However, his lead over Tosha Schareina (Honda) disappeared. The Spaniard, 7th in the stage (+5’18”), is now 6’13” behind the Australian. The suspense therefore remains for the next stages, with a fierce fight for the podium and leadership.
