Formula 1 | McLaren reshuffles team 'strategy' after 2024 criticism

McLaren has made changes to its team 'strategy' after facing criticism during the 2024 season.

If there's one area where the constructors' champions deserve criticism, it's their strategic decisions, with sporting director Randeep Singh making a number of errors throughout the campaign. He is therefore removed from the field of racing strategy to concentrate on his other tasks

The Woking side have now confirmed changes ahead of the 2025 season.

Oli Cartlidge has been promoted to senior racing strategist and head of strategic operations after serving under Lando Norris.

“I am very excited to announce that I am starting in a new role as Senior Racing Strategist and Head of Strategic Operations at McLaren Racing!”

“Building on the foundation we have laid over the past few years and following a phenomenal 2024 season, I am excited to try to further raise the level of what we can achieve as part of this great team.”

Cartlidge joined McLaren in August 2017 as a graduate engineer before joining the trackside strategy team two years later.

Initially focused on the team as a whole, he was assigned to Norris for the 2023 season before becoming a senior specialist last year.

Now, in his new role, he will also have to train other engineers in strategy.

According to McLaren, “he will lead operational strategic decision-making for the racing team. And in addition to this strategy-focused role, a focus on continued operational development and the recruitment of young talent will be a key element in his new role .”
