the EPCR confirms the entry into force of new rules for the 3rd and 4th days

More new rules. This Friday, the EPCR, organizer of the Champions Cup, confirmed the arrival of four rules, during the next day of competition (weekend of January 10, 11 and 12).

An entry into force in full season, required by World Rugby. Indeed, the world body will implement these new rules in all world competitions starting from January 1, 2025, as well as during the next 6 Nations Tournament. They obviously always aim to “encourage speed, spaces and phases of contest, and improve the fan and player experience”writes the EPCR.

These rules are therefore as follows: “60 second limit on conversions to align with penalties and increase the pace of the game. This limit will be managed by a visible timer wherever possible”, “Limit of 30 seconds of preparation for sideline alignments, corresponding to the preparation time for scrums, to reduce downtime. This will be managed on the pitch by the match officials., “The game continues when a hit is not contested, even if the throw is not straight” et “Protection of the scrum half during scrums, rucks and mauls”.

These four changes will also be applied in the Challenge Cup, where six French teams are playing this season.
