Max Verstappen spoke candidly about how he felt about some of the defining moments of his career, including his first world title at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, in an episode of the Talking Bull podcast, produced by Red Bull Racing. An intense memory that he would never wish to relive, as the pressure and emotion were unbearable. Asked by a fan what moment he would like to relive, Verstappen immediately brought up Abu Dhabi 2021, but not from the angle you might imagine: “I wouldn't want to relive Brazil, because it was so emotionally draining also that day that I can't do it again. It's the same as, for me, like reliving my first title, that day- there, I think I would die, honestly [d’une] heart attack”admits Verstappen, in comments reported by GPBlog.
A particularly stressful moment
Max Verstappen also spoke of another moment of high tension: the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix. During qualifying, he destroyed his hotel room after a disappointing session. Yet, thanks to the support of his father Jos, he managed to channel his frustration to deliver a masterful ongoing performance, going from 17th position to victory in the pouring rain. In the podcast, Max says: “Because I remember the people who saw me that day, especially my girlfriend Kelly [Piquet]she came to my room before the race. And I think normally before a race I'm not really nervous. I mean, you're just well prepared, and there can be a little bit of nervousness because you want to do well, but she said my hands felt like ice. Once again, you really don't want to relive those kinds of moments. They are incredible to watch, but not to relive.” expresses Max Verstappen. Although he endured this day, the Dutchman had managed to win his first world title.
