The title won by Jorge Martín in 2024 is the result of a profound change of approach. The Madrilenian knew how to remember the mistakes of the past, especially when he sought to knock out the competition despite an already comfortable lead, which could cause him to lose big points. He has also worked a lot on his mental health, admitting to having struggled to deal with certain episodes in the past.

“I would say he’s completely different… Well, not completely”noted Gino Borsoi, team manager of the Pramac team. Because if Martín has acquired a welcome mastery and serenity to play for a world title, he has retained the essential, the incisive driving which is his strength: “What has remained is his characteristic of being an aggressive driver, with spectacular driving.”

“We saw him this year. There are races where I really looked at him with admiration because he has a driving style that I personally fall in love with. It was great to see him, not because he's my driver but because he has spectacular riding I would say that from Moto3 to MotoGP, which are two completely different categories, this aggressive style, of attacking the corners with a special angle, very inclined on the inside of the corner, he does. 'already had it at the beginning and he got it maintained in MotoGP.”

Probably the best example of this controlled aggression was the Malaysian GP, where Martín had his first opportunity to win the title this year. During the first laps, he engaged in a fierce duel with Pecco Bagnaia for first place, with countless overtaking maneuvers that caused concern in the Pramac garage… but Borsoi claims to have placed total confidence in its pilot.

“I wasn't worried at all. Because the Jorge of the last part of the season had already understood how to manage the races. So I told him that if he felt it, he had to do what he had to do. When we try to hold back a pilot, we can do worse. It's when we try to slow him down that the error will perhaps occur. [je lui ai dit] to do what he had to do, I knew he wasn't going to make any mistakes.”

Despite this certainty anchored in him, Borsoi nevertheless admitted to having gone through all the emotions during this sequence: “He had us all amused, that's for sure, and even a little worried in the box! I lost around 4 kg that day, but it was a fabulous race thanks to his style, his desire to We saw an incredible fight between Pecco and him, and I believe it will go down in history.”

Two years earlier, we had seen a very different Jorge Martín in Malaysia. Starting in the lead, he dominated the first laps before finally falling. At the time, he shared the Pramac team garage with Johann Zarco, who saw him evolve over the years. According to the Frenchman, Martín has learned to turn his back when he can't win, which has allowed him to find essential consistency in pursuit of the title.

“When he is fast or he can be the fastest, we see it and he takes that opportunity”explained Zarco. “When he can't seize this advantage, he is on the podium and he takes the podium points. We see that he is faster than last year because when it worked for him, he did not expect .Sometimes when you have the advantage, maybe you try to control. When he had the advantage, he seized the moment.”
