KTM's situation is becoming more and more worrying every day. The Austrian manufacturer has ensured its presence on the grid in 2025, but what about next?
In the midst of a financial crisis, the future of KTM is compromised. Last Friday, following the hearing at the regional court in Ried, the Austrian manufacturer was authorized to continue its activities. According to ORF media, the restructuring process will continue as planned, while the company would have “sufficient liquidity” until its next audit meeting. Also, the number of planned layoffs has been reduced from 500 to 300, while salaries for November and December are expected to be paid to employees by the end of January. However, production remains frozen until the end of February.
Several deadlines await KTM. The first is on January 24, where the Austrian manufacturer will have to deal with creditors who have come forward before January 16. The vote on the restructuring plan will take place a month later. A decision has been made by the directors who have announced that they will sell the majority stake of 50.1% in the Italian brand MV Agusta.
To save KTM, the Pierer Mobility Group commissioned Citigroup Global Markets Europe AG (Citibank) to find potential investors capable of injecting money as quickly as possible.
KTM still present in MotoGP in 2025
Regarding the MotoGP program, KTM will be on the grid with Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta while Tech3 will field Austrian motorcycles with Enea Bastianini and Maverick Viñales. However, a few days ago, the creditor protection organization Alpenlandischer Kreditorenverband (AKV) announced that as part of the reorganization measures, “withdrawal of MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 planned” in order to reduce costs, without giving a precise timetable.
But KTM quickly denied this statement by affirming its presence on the grid in 2025, as well as in the other categories. “KTM is firmly committed to motorsport. We reiterate our declaration for 2025: we will continue to race in MotoGP“, the press release said.
