After a promising 2023 season, the 2024 financial year was a cold shower for Aston Martin F1. Fernando Alonso grew impatient at the end of the season but is more optimistic for next year, as the team reorganizes and continues to get used to its new premises.
“Now I think we can reset, learn from all the difficulties and mistakes of this year and apply them to next year's project” Alonso said. “The new factory is now complete, and the new wind tunnel will be opened soon.”
“Andy Cowell has already changed some of the weaknesses he found in the team, so we have confidence in the new management and I think things are going in the right direction, so I'm happy with that.”
“But in Formula 1 there are not many miracles – you have to be patient, you have to find the right point in the car, you have to find the update that will really wake up everything in these ground effect cars .”
Alonso wants Aston Martin to take inspiration from McLaren to succeed in introducing a significant and very effective evolution in terms of profits: “They started last and won races mid-season and we need to learn from them. It's a good example of how things can be done.”
“In Austria, they introduced a package, they gained six, seven tenths, and that was the start of a series of packages that allowed their car to be the fastest, eventually. So this Austrian package , if we want to call it that, is something we need to work on.”
