Fred Vasseur responded to Mattia Binotto after the latter declared that he would not have chosen to recruit Lewis Hamilton.
Lewis Hamilton's incredible transfer to Ferrari has caused a lot of talk. Even before the start of the 2024 season, the seven-time World Champion had in fact made the choice to leave Mercedes, the team with which he had so much success, to head to the Scuderia and reunite with an old acquaintance, a certain Frédéric Vasseur.
A few weeks ago, when asked by Corriere della Sera whether he too would have decided to recruit Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, Mattia Binotto responded in the negative: “No. But he did very well to go to Ferrari, I agree with his decision.”
He was then asked to explain this response: “Because Ferrari had set its sights on other drivers”he explained. “And if the talent is Leclerc, it is he who, in a certain way, should be taken to goal.”

Vasseur: “I am happy that so many people have the time to comment on our choices”
A few weeks later, Frédéric Vasseur did not hesitate to respond to Mattia Binotto, who was the director of Scuderia Ferrari before the Frenchman, and who is now director of operations and technical manager of the Audi F1 project.
“I'm not sure Hamilton would have gone to Sauber!”Fred Vasseur first declared with humor during an interview with La Stampa. “I'm glad so many people have the time to comment on our choices. I am focused on our work, after all, when I was at Sauber I didn’t talk about Ferrari.”
Lewis Hamilton, who competed in his last Grand Prix with Mercedes in Abu Dhabi, did not test the Ferrari during post-season testing. We will have to wait until the start of 2025 to finally see the seven-time World Champion at the wheel of a red single-seater.
