Esteban Ocon wants to finish the 2024 season in style with Alpine F1 by helping the team in which he races to get sixth place in the constructors' championship. He regrets not having scored points in Las Vegas and expects an intense end to the season.
“The spirit is always to want to do the best we can to get sixth place. It's a shame for Las Vegas, there were points available, I was in the fight, but we didn't get there. 'didn't do it and I want to bounce back here' Ocon said.
“It will be very close, some teams are faster than us right now and we have to make sure we take the opportunities when they come and do a better job than we did in Las Vegas.”
Opposed to Haas, his future team, he assures that he will give everything for his current team: “I'm doing the best I can with what I have, we want to finish the story on a good note and secure sixth place in the championship.”
“That's what I want to do with Alpine. I see the progress of Haas, it's very fast, but I'm still driving for Alpine and that's where my mind is. It's the least I can do and I'm really focused on that.”
F1 wants to succeed in implementing a cooling system for drivers in the seat of their car, and Ocon is in favor of this. However, he believes that the ideas currently being developed are not the most effective.
“It's great that the FIA is trying to help us in extreme conditions which can be dangerous. We saw (in 2023, editor's note) Lance get out of his car and go to the ambulance, Logan was not finished, several pilots including me had been sick This year it’s cold, it’s windy and it’s pretty cold!”
“I think we'll find a solution to make this work. I don't think we're going in the right direction with the system, I heard it's a jacket and it could be heavy. But I don't Haven't tested it so I'm not sure of the technicalities.”
“But we've seen GT cars that cool through the seat, with holes drilled into it, and that would be preferable, I don't know if it's possible but it might be something to look at for the future. “
