Formula 1 | Komatsu: Best eighth place ever for Haas

Haas scored four points in Las Vegas, which allowed the American team to regain sixth place in the championship from Alpine, after losing it in Brazil. Ayao Komatsu, team director, relished this result from Nico Hülkenberg, and he saluted the race with a single stop from Kevin Magnussen.

“I think it’s the best eighth place we’ve ever had!” Komatsu welcomed. “It wasn’t an easy race to manage, but what makes me really happy is that no one panicked.”

“And everyone stayed calm. Everyone, including the factory team, did their job, and to have that great two-stop race with Nico to get eighth is great.”

“With Kevin, after the first lap he was losing positions, and the only way to get him back into contention was to make a pit stop. His race team did the best they could in that scenario, almost getting back to tenth place.”

This great overall performance allows us to forget the hard blow from Brazil, when Haas had just taken sixth position at RB F1 in Mexico: “It was a huge effort from the team in terms of management for both drivers.”

“We are back to sixth place among the constructors. After that terrible result in Brazil the reaction has been incredible and it gives people confidence, so I couldn’t be happier.”
