Formula 1 seems ready to welcome an eleventh team from the 2026 season, as part of the next regulatory cycle.
According to sources such as RacingNews365 and Formula.hu, an agreement has been reached and an official announcement is expected soon. This grid expansion would be possible via a collaboration between the Andretti project and General Motors, although the final name of the team remains to be determined.
Initially, Andretti was the only team to have successfully passed the FIA selection process, but its request for integration for 2026 was rejected by FOM (Formula One Management). One point of disagreement was the need for Andretti to race as a customer team for two seasons before becoming a factory team with General Motors under the Cadillac banner, starting in 2028.

Michael Andretti no longer with queens, the project relaunched
Despite this, Andretti continued its preparations to aim for entry as early as 2026, while maintaining the planned timetable to obtain full team status in 2028.
According to Associated Press, the fact that Michael Andretti left the head of Andretti Global helped boost the chances of seeing his project enter F1.
Still according to the Associated Press, following the taking over of Dan Towriss, now head of Andretti Global which is also present in Las Vegas, discussions intensified. Motorsport.com also confirms that discussions have taken place regarding an entry into F1 by the Andretti group associated with General Motors. These talks could lead to the entry of an eleventh team from 2026 supported by General Motors, which could then be called Cadillac.
Motorsport.com therefore believes that GM should then rely on the project already launched by Andretti, notably at Silverstone. As for supplying the engines for the debut, possible options include Ferrari or Honda, before GM designs an in-house engine from 2028.
