Haas F1 boss Ayao Komatsu is directly opposed to a possible rule change for the 2026 Formula 1 season which could be a “killer” for smaller teams.
There are plans to introduce a new rule in 2026 that would affect which teams can use transferable components.
Haas is well known as a team using as many Ferrari-supplied components as possible as regulations allow, including but not limited to the powertrain, gearbox and rear suspension.
If passed by a majority of teams, a rule in 2026 would require any team finishing fifth or higher in the manufacturers' standings to manufacture all of its components within three years.
"It would be a killer for small teams," Komatsu said.
“If Formula 1 wants as many teams as possible to be competitive, then it will reject this rule.”
“What better thing could happen to sport than David defeating Goliath?”
“Which fan cares whether the gearbox or suspension comes from Ferrari or us?”
“We are credited an equivalent nominal value for the components we purchase within the budget cap. It is so high that we have no advantage.”
