Liam Lawson has no fears about taking on Max Verstappen at Red Bull should he be promoted in 2025.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko recently suggested the team will make a decision on its driver duo after Abu Dhabi, due to Sergio Perez's struggles.
The Mexican driver is under significant pressure due to a string of poor performances, with Lawson cited as the favorite among his potential replacements.
Despite having only competed in a handful of races, Lawson is confident about how he would fare against Verstappen, should he be promoted by Red Bull.
“No, I'm not afraid of that. In fact, I wouldn't want anyone else as a teammate than Max. He's the best in the sport.”
“It would be very educational to compete with him, to be able to study his data every weekend and see exactly how he approaches F1. That would be the ultimate challenge for me.”
“So no, I'm not scared. I'm not thinking about it too much right now. If I get the chance in the future, I'll do everything I can to make the most of it.”
After spending some time as a reserve, Lawson revealed he learned more from Verstappen than any other driver so far.
“By being in the garage and wearing the radio headset, I was able to see and hear everything up close for two years.”
“How he drives the car, how he talks about balance and what he wants.”
“He is very clear and direct, Max doesn't waste time when giving his opinion. This is very important in Formula 1. I think I learned more from him than from anyone else. “
