Formula 1 | Sainz failed to tame his Ferrari SF-24 in the wet this year

Carlos Sainz's rain-affected crashes in Brazil and Canada earlier this season damaged his reputation as a driver who can make a difference in difficult conditions.

The Ferrari driver insisted on defending himself and explained that his problems in the rain during the current season were exclusively linked to difficulties with the SF-24

“I have always been a very strong driver in the rain,” he pointed out.

“But for some reason, ever since I tested this car in the rain this year, I never had a good feeling with it.”

“I don't know if we're just not putting enough energy into the tires. We're running it too stiff at medium and high speeds or whatever.”

“Clearly it’s very unpredictable and very difficult to drive.”

“I'm glad that Charles [Leclerc] brought back to 5th place. I heard he had difficulty holding it as well.”

“So, honestly, it was a bit of a nightmare, the whole race. But yes, some dry races are coming and we will try to continue to close our gap on McLaren in the standings.”
