Ferrari hoped to score more points in Brazil, but Carlos Sainz's two track exits, which forced him to leave the pits and then retire in the race, allowed McLaren F1 to regain the lead. Frédéric Vasseur, the director of the Scuderia, explains that Charles Leclerc's result makes it possible to limit the damage.
“We have mixed feelings because we were able to limit the damage in our fight with McLaren, but on the other hand we should have also scored points with Carlos, not just with Charles” says Vasseur.
“With both drivers the timing of the pit stops wasn't the best but in general we struggled a lot with pace and getting the tires to the right temperature after each restart. At the last restart Charles s “He did very well to get ahead of Lando (Norris) and George (Russell) but the Mercedes was able to overtake him again and Charles had to defend against Lando.”
Finally, Leclerc scored ten points, and the Scuderia still scored 116 units in the total of the American treble, which reassures its boss: “As the stint progressed, his tires improved and he was able to finish in 5th place.
“It was a tough weekend but looking at this treble as a whole we are still the team that scored the most points, which is a good way to approach the last three races of the season. We will do our best to keep the fight for the title open until Abu Dhabi.”
