After her Olympic title in in July, Cassandre Beaugrand was crowned triathlon world champion on Saturday during the final event of the WTCS world circuit in Torremolinos in Spain, confirming her status as a star of the discipline.

At 27 years old, the first French world champion nevertheless gave herself a big scare by taking the wrong trajectory at the start of the swimming event. Coming out of the water about fifteen seconds after the best, she caught up on the bike then attacked three kilometers from the finish of the running race, disgusting her rivals.

A British claim in vain

The result was frozen time, since a claim was filed for “external assistance”. Cassandre Beaugrand took the wrong direction at the start of the swimming event. She headed towards the right of the water while all the competitors left towards the first buoy located on the left.
