Formula 1 | Aston Martin takes seventh row for Austin Sprint

Lance Stroll signed the best performance for Aston Martin during the Sprint Qualifying of the United States Grand Prix, with 13th place. He regrets not having managed to maintain the same level throughout the qualifying session.

“The car felt good in SQ1, but in SQ2 it became very difficult to drive and we were surprised by the limits of the track” declared the Canadian pilot at the end of the first day.

“We still have some work to do tonight to look at the data we’ve collected and understand how we can optimize the updates we’ve made to the car. I think in terms of pace we’re in a position similar to what we’ve had all season.”

Fernando Alonso qualified ahead of his teammate but saw a lap erased, and he will therefore be 14th alongside the other Aston Martin on the seventh row on the Sprint grid: “We wanted to experiment a bit with the car today.”

“We made some set-up changes before sprint qualifying. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to progress to SQ3 and we also had a few laps deleted due to track limitations at the end.

“We will evaluate these changes and the new package tonight and see what we can do tomorrow. The top eight positions count tomorrow, so it will be very difficult to fight for points, but we will see what we can learn.”
