Formula 1 | RB F1: Migration to Milton Keynes ‘necessary’ to progress

RB F1 will open a new era at the end of the year by abandoning its headquarters in England, in Bicester. The team will migrate its aerodynamics department to Milton Keynes, on the Red Bull Racing campus. Laurent Mekies, the team director, sees it as a way to fight against the best teams.

“Today the facilities are simply not good enough” Mekies told Motorsport Week. “We are building something incredible in Milton Keynes for our staff.”

“It is certain that this will allow us to work in better conditions and to be even more attractive on the job market to meet the next challenges. We have a good headquarters in Faenza. We had a sub-optimal headquarters in Bicester and now we have a great headquarters in Milton Keynes. So, yes, it is absolutely necessary in this way to challenge the big guys.

According to him, this is the only way in which RB F1 can finally have high ambitions: “I think in Formula 1 you always want more. If you prove yourself, you can be sixth. If you prove yourself tomorrow, you can be fifth.”

“We always want more. So your goal in five years is to get as close as possible to the top of the hierarchy. Moreover, if you want to hire the best people, you will have to have this ambition anyway.”

If the top teams seem unattainable, CEO Peter Bayer does not rule out getting involved in the fight one day: “Now we may not be able to realistically challenge for first, second or third place. But I think you have to have the ambition to be there, sixth, sniffing out the fifth place and have the appetite for third.”
