Premier League – 7th day: Liverpool dominates Crystal Palace (0-1) and temporarily leads

Liverpool consolidated their first place at Crystal Palace (1-0) on Saturday, a sixth victory in seven league matches, again without a goal conceded. With 18 points, the “Reds” of Arne Slot, the successor of Jürgen Klopp, are guaranteed to spend the October international break in the lead, ahead of Manchester City (2nd, 14 points) and Arsenal (3rd, 14 pts), respective hosts of Fulham and Southampton on Saturday.

Liverpool won in south London thanks to an early goal from Diogo Jota (9th, 1-0) who cut out a cross from Cody Gakpo. His domination was total in the first period, except at the beginning and at the end: Crystal Palace scored after 25 seconds – goal canceled for an offside position -, then scored his first strike by Eddie Nketiah (45th + 2) before the break.

Alisson leaves injured

The Reds goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, was called upon more in the second half, notably on a new shot from Nketiah (64th), the striker who arrived this summer from Arsenal. The Brazilian goalkeeper was forced to leave a quarter of an hour before the final whistle, injured, perhaps in his hamstring.

His understudy Caoimhin Kelleher not being there, it was Vitezslav Jaros who made his appearance at Selhurst Park, the 23-year-old Czech goalkeeper’s first in the Premier League with the red jersey. He defeated Eberechi Eze (84th) and made a good exit in added time.

Liverpool has more than ever the best defense in the championship, with only two goals conceded by Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté and their partners. The situation is getting even worse for Crystal Palace, in a relegation position after their fourth defeat of the season (and three draws).
