The strong choice of Sergio Perez on his future

“I’m not the leaving”, these are the words shared by Sergio Perez on his social networks, after the rise of a crazy rumor, sending him into retirement for the 2025 season. Since the Monaco Grand Prix, the Mexican driver is constantly under pressure. To relieve him of the stress, Red Bull made the decision to extend him for two more years as starter, during the race meeting in Canada last June. However, this announcement did not help him to do better, he had several poor performances behind the wheel of the RB20. But recently, the ouster of Daniel Ricciardo from the Racing Bulls team, after the eighteenth round in Singapore, is a way to shake up the native of Guadalajara.

In difficulty since the return from the summer break, the Milton Keynes team needs its two drivers to win the constructors’ world championship. Very far from his teammate Max Verstappen, during the races, the performances of Checo Perez are closely observed by the managers of the red bull brand. With young talents like Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar, his seat is still in the hot seat, despite the help of sponsors and Liberty Media.

“I want to end my career when I want”

During an interview with DAZN, Sergio Perez spoke about his desires. In his words, the Red Bull driver wants to end his career when he decides for himself. Knowing that there are only two seasons left to complete, the end appears to be near for the Mexican, he does not intend to stay very long like his comrades Lewis Hamilton or Fernando Alonso.

“For the last six months I have been thinking about [à la retraite] but it took me three seconds to make my decision. In the end, it would have been the easy solution, after so many years, to abandon everything. I would never have forgiven myself. I want to finish my career when I want and not when someone tells me to. This is my main goal: to get to the point where I can decide my future. For now I’m very motivated, to be honest I really want to continue in Formula 1. I love it, the good times, but you also learn to appreciate the bad ones. For now, I have two years of contract left, and two years in F1 is a long time. But I know the end is getting closer. I don’t see myself racing like Fernando again [Alonso] for example, that I admire a lot for everything he does for his age. It’s not that I don’t want to, but I have young children and I want to spend more time with them. Ultimately, they will be the limiting factor. With 24 races per year, the calendar is already complicated, but I will be there for at least two more years. However, I don’t see myself staying in Formula 1 for very long.”
