Cléopâtre Darleux returns to Metz for a final season

The goalkeeper of the French handball team, Cléopâtre Darleux, without a club since the end of her contract in this summer, announced on Sunday that she had signed up for a final season with the club where she played from 2009 to 2011.

“I signed for Metz so I’m leaving tomorrow (Monday) with my daughter. I’m arriving when the season has already started but I’m very excited to start this new adventure”said the 35-year-old handball player during the Stade 2 show on 3.

The Metz club, which confirmed his arrival in a press release on Sunday evening, was looking for a goalkeeper to compensate for the departure to Györ (Hungary) of French international Hatadou Sako. “It’s for one season and I think I’ll stop after that.”underlined Darleux, who had to put her career on hold for more than a year following a concussion in January 2023. The international goalkeeper returned just in time to participate in the Games and win silver with the Blues. A reserve, she was able to join the group to play a group match against Brazil, taking advantage of a package from Sako who shared the French cage with Laura Glauser.

Is the French team still part of Darleux’s projects while the Bleues will launch, from November 28 to December 15, the reconquest of the Euro organized in Austria, Hungary and Switzerland? “I am not closing the door but there is no certainty on this subject”replied the Olympic (2021) and world (2017) champion.

“It was a lot of reflection to know whether or not I continued my career. So, I am waiting to see Sébastien (Gardillou, coach) in the coming weeks to discuss it”explained Darleux.
