Lando Norris believes it is “definitely possible” for him to catch Max Verstappen in the world championship before the end of the season, provided McLaren maintains its good form over the next rounds of the 2024 season.

After the Singapore Grand Prix won by Lando Norris, the McLaren team is still leader of the constructors’ world championship with 41 points ahead of Red Bull Racing. In the drivers’ standings, Lando Norris is second with 52 points behind leader Max Verstappen, with six Grands Prix still remaining this season.

Speaking after his victory in Singapore, Lando Norris admitted that he will need to have similar strong weekends in the remaining six races this season to be able to catch and overtake Max Verstappen in the world championship: “This is what I need to do, this is what I need, this is what we need to do as a team. » declared the Briton on Sky Sports.

“But we have to do it every race until the end of the year if I want to have a chance of getting Max. We’re working hard and if I keep doing what I did this weekend, then it’s definitely possible. I hope so. »

“But I still have a lot of points to make up and it won’t be easy. We’re battling it out against Red Bull and Max, the most dominant pair you’ve ever seen in Formula 1 since last year. »

“And it hasn’t necessarily changed, it’s the same team, the same driver. So this is one of the toughest competitions Formula 1 has ever seen in the sport. »

“We are doing better as a team at the moment because our car is faster than theirs. But credit goes to the team who are doing an amazing job, being smarter, doing cooler things and creating mini DRS flaps and all that. “I’m working as hard as I can, giving it my all, trying to make this happen. Him [Verstappen] try to make sure that doesn’t happen. So we’ll have to wait to find out. »
