Amandine Vidon is relieved. The member of Ardennes Cross Team Gecibat managed to contain the return of Noémie Garnier, double winner this weekend at La Ferté-Bernard, to win the final ranking of the Coupe de France by three points (see here). “I was apprehensive, I was stressed. There was this challenge of the general classification with only six points difference. Everything was decided this Sunday. I had no room for error, I wanted to do well. I didn't have any exceptional feelings either. I didn't panic, I tried to keep my pace and not make any mistakes so it wouldn't come back behind. As long as I didn't cross the line, anything could happen.”she confides on the microphone of DirectVelo.
3rd and 2nd in the last two rounds of the Coupe de France, the 24-year-old athlete did most of the work by winning the general classification, even if she had to let Noémie Garnier slip away each time in Sarthe. “I am satisfied with my two races. It's a personal satisfaction to win this trophy. I am happy to bring this victory to Ardennes Cross Team Gecibat, it solidifies their investment in my passion. I show that I’m here, it’s great“. Ranked 2nd last year, she did not imagine climbing to the highest step of the podium after the first act in Nommay where she finished 9th and 7th. “I wasn't thinking about the general classification at all at the start of the season. Finally, I came back little by little.”
At the top at the national level, Amandine Vidon will now compete internationally next weekend during the World Cup rounds in Hulst and Zonhoven. “It will be something else. The season is not over at all. Afterwards there will be Besançon, the French Championship and perhaps the World Cup in Liévin… I would really like to go there. It's something to experience in my country, but I'm not obsessed with it either. Besides, I no longer think about my non-selection at Tabor, I understand the decisions taken. It’s behind me, it’s a new year.”
