The Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games are over. After the closing ceremony of the Games on Sunday, August 8, the capital said its final farewell to the athletes from all over the world. Tony Estanguet, the head of the Organizing Committee for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, hailed the “immense success” of the Olympic Games, an event that “exceeded our hopes and dreams,” he added in an interview with Le Figaro published on Monday, September 9.

Emmanuel Macron also highlighted the organization of the Olympic Games after the closing ceremony on August 11. “We have made sustainable and equal Games, it will never be otherwise,” stressed the President of the Republic. Indeed, the Paris Games stand out from other editions on several points. First, they are the least expensive Olympic Games in recent editions. The overall cost is estimated at 8.9 billion euros, three times less than the budget for the Tokyo 2020 Games (around 30 billion euros). Those in Beijing cost 50 million euros, while those in Atlanta in 1996 cost 19 billion euros. This difference is explained by the fact that 95% of the Games’ infrastructure already existed. The vast majority of Olympic sites are therefore buildings renovated for the occasion. Some sites were temporary and will be dismantled after the Games.
