The Renault 5 E-Tech electric faces some teething problems

Thus, this driver found himself unable to shift his car into forward or reverse gear, being stuck in neutral. “The local tow truck came to collect the vehicle. He informed me that another R5 owner had had exactly the same problem three weeks previously”he specifies, supporting photo. Other testimonies from forum members confirm this phenomenon, of which we do not know to what extent it affects Renault's novelty. This disabling problem is reminiscent of a similar bug this time affecting the Citroën ë-C3, among its many early problems.

A temporary solution while waiting for a remote update

Renault reacted in a post on this same forum, giving the procedure to follow if this breakdown occurs. “If the problem were to occur, putting your vehicle to sleep for a long time would resolve the situation”it is indicated. To do this, it is necessary to completely close the vehicle, ensure that all its systems are turned off (vehicle unplugged, radio and side lights off, etc.) and move away from it for 20 to 30 minutes.

This solution, which remains quite disabling, should allow you to switch to mode D/B (forward) or R (reverse). Fortunately, Renault specifies that“a fix is being finalized and will be deployed soon via a remote update campaign.” Customers of the R5 are therefore luckier than those of the ë-C3, which requires a trip to the workshop to correct its various faults (only its infotainment can be updated remotely).
