Mathieu Van der Poel, winner of the Gavere cyclo-cross this Thursday, did not go unnoticed when he arrived before the start of the race. The Dutchman, ambassador of the Lamborghini brand, arrived aboard a Revuelto worth 500,000 euros.
The cyclo-cross in Gavere (Belgium), which he won this Thursday, had not yet started when Mathieu van der Poel had already stood out. A little earlier in the day, the Dutch racer arrived on site at the wheel of a… Bright orange Lamborghini. More precisely a Revuelto, capable of reaching 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 350 km/h. A car for the modest sum of 506,000 euros in its basic version…
Mathieu Van der Poel then swapped his luxury car – he is an ambassador for the brand – for his bike on the extremely muddy Gavere circuit. With success: he won alone during this seventh round of the World Cup, after escaping at the start of the third of seven rounds. The Belgians Michaël Vanthouerenhout (+26″) and Thibau Nys (+41″) complete the podium.
The world title record in the sights
With this success, Mathieu van der Poel continues to dominate all the cyclo-crosses in which he participates and signs his third victory in as many races this season: he had already won at Zonhoven on Sunday and at the Superprestige in Mol on Monday. Six times world champion, the Dutchman's ambition this year is to equal the record of seven world champion titles held by Belgian Erik De Vlaeminck, on February 2 at the World Championships in Liévin in France. In the meantime, his first meeting will be on Friday at Loenhout where he will face his great rival Wout Van Aert for the first time this season.
