“Honestly, Angèle really amazed us,” says Elen Rius. At 27, the Relecquoise, well known in the world of professional Cycling for having collaborated with teams like Arkéa, Groupama-FDJ or beIN Sport, co-directed, with her best friend from Guipavase Axelle Bellec, the documentary “Saorsa” ( “Liberty” in Gaelic). In 2019, Angèle Paty, aged only 18, undertook a sort of initiatory journey between Montpellier and Scotland.
A first version in June
The two Finistère women, won over by the journey of their youngest daughter, aim to tell it on video. “We really liked what she told us, the way she traveled,” explains Elen. It allows us to get back to things that are much more down to earth. It is certain that we are far from the professional world, where we focus a lot on performance, but there are other ways of using the bike, of telling stories around this practice through introspection , the landscapes… It's very different, but it ultimately complements each other! “.
To make the documentary, the three women return in Angèle's footsteps: to Scotland. “We let ourselves be guided a little and the documentary was written gradually,” continues Elen Rius. In June, with Axelle Bellec, they delivered a first version, which they presented at the 100% cycling festival “All in the saddle! “. “We were asked for a few adjustments, but we were selected,” enthuses La Relecquoise.
“Close to intimacy”
After a preview at the Grand Rex, in Paris, on Friday November 22, 2024, here is the festival and its seven productions on tour throughout France. A tour which will include the Le Celtic cinema, in Brest, on Thursday November 28 (full). “It’s a project outside the framework, which doesn’t really respond to television formats, and we were lucky to have had real freedom and to be supported by sponsors,” recognizes Elen Rius. “But,” she continues, “it motivates us to look for new stories like this in which we find ourselves as close as possible to the intimacy of people.”
