While on the men's circuit side, Tadej Pogacar outrageously dominated the 2024 season with successes in the Giro, the Tour de France and even the World Championships, on the women's Cycling side, this season was more open. We were able to see Demi Vollering and Lotte Kopecky at work. The first won the Tour of Spain, while the second won the Road World Championships. But Vollering, also winner of the Tour de France in 2023 and second in 2024, decided to leave the best team in the world, SD Worx-Protime to join FDJ SUEZ. A very surprising choice and one that she decided to comment on for the NRC media, she who was teammates with Kopecky but who wavered regarding major tensions between them.
Vollering discusses tensions with Kopecky
“I think she tried to avoid me a little, she was more focused on herself. She was very focused on next year, when I won't be here anymore. Throughout the season, when I was racing with Lotte, we were racing with two plans. A plan for Lotte, a plan for Demi. But I just need clearer tactics“, confided Vollering, who therefore decided to slam the door of SD Worx-Protime to join the French team from 2025. That promises great battles on the roads soon.
