The effect JO took place! Through a press release published this Wednesday, the French Cycling Federation (FFC) announced good news for French cycling with, as expected, an upward trend for 2025 licenses and almost 21% more licenses compared to last year. THE Paris 2024 Olympic Gamesduring which French cyclists won 9 medals, including three gold, seem to have aroused vocations among the general public. This is shown by a first inventory of the number of licenses, carried out by the FFC as of October 31, 2024. Compared to 2023, the increase to date is general, and more marked among women, young people, and the BMX. These encouraging figures are an effect of Olympic Gamesand the result of the work of the clubs which have been able to strengthen their reception capacities.

Nearly 21% more licenses compared to last year
As of October 31, 2024, the FFC recorded 19,259 license requests, compared to 15,940 last year on the same date, which represents a jump of 20.82%.
More marked progress among young people and women
The increase in the number of licenses is even more noticeable among women, who increased by 23%, and in the youth category, taken as a whole (from “Baby Vélo” to U17), which increased by 24.2%. . Young cyclists can join one of the 469 clubs labeled “French Cycling School” that the FFC currently has.
Progress across all disciplines, led by BMX
Among the different disciplines, it is BMX Race, whose Olympic triumph was the most spectacular of all, which recorded the strongest progression (+33.8%), ahead of BMX Freestyle (+20.9%). We will also note a strong increase in Cyclo-Cross (+24.47%) and Cross-Country MTB (+15.4%). As for the road, which has the largest contingents, the number of licenses is up 11% (17.2% for women).
Clubs that have been able to strengthen their reception capacities
The final figures will be known later but this first trend suggests an acceleration in license taking since the start of the 2024 school year (107,648 licensees in 2024). The inspiring power of Olympic athletes has largely seduced the French and arouses vocations among young people for all disciplines of Cycling. The FFC congratulates the work of the clubs and the investment of its leaders who were able to mobilize during the summer and during the back-to-school period to welcome, in the best conditions, these new licensees.
