Medellin is already collecting points, a problem for the Pro Team?

Team Medellin already has almost 200 points in the UCI rankings. This will certainly seem anecdotal to you, but for most teams playing in the Pro Team division things are certainly different.

This for a very simple reason. Next year, the rule regarding invitations to the Grand of the 2026 season will change, and you will have to finish in the top 30 to claim to participate in the Giro, Tour de or even at the Vuelta.

A mission that is already complex to begin with, particularly for the Spanish and Italian structures, which absolutely need their flagship national event to survive.

A mission which could prove even more difficult if some Conti were to enter the top 30 at the end of the 2025 season. And clearly, Medellin is one of these “potential dangers”, with a few Devos, but also Terengganu, 30th the last season.

Down in 2024 for different reasons, Medellin has clearly reversed the trend over the past month, and it should leave the Vuelta a Ecuador this Sunday evening with a total of around 200 points for the 2025 season.

200 points is more than 20% of their 2024 total, and already a nice jackpot. Especially with a top 30 which was decided last season at around 1,800 points. But also other easy tests which will arrive before the pros resume. The Vuelta Costa Rica in particular, with around ten stages on the program, and the Vuelta al Tachira. Two events that could allow Medellin to earn a little more.

And perhaps next October condemn an additional Pro Team, especially since the calendar outside Europe gains strength year after year, and as a result, many points will be to be distributed throughout the season.
