Will Tadej Pogačar end his career at UAE Team Emirates? The recent world Cycling champion and last winner of the Tour de France has extended his contract with the Emirati team until 2030. He will then be 32 years old. And if some teams had the good idea to divert it, we would then have to take out the checkbook.
50 million euros over six years
According to the Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport the Slovenian would thus increase his emoluments to 8 million euros per season. Above all, UAE Team Emirates would have included a release clause worth 200 million euros within its new contract. Enough to discourage any team from recruiting the man with 25 victories this season.
For Mauro Gianetti, the director of the Emirati team, Pogačar is not on the market. “He doesn’t want to leave, he’s part of the country. What he does for Abu Dhabi is worth more than the races he wins. Pogacar is proud of it, he creates enthusiasm, a nation discovered cycling and he has a great relationship with the royal family,” commented the Swiss leader after the Italian media.
