Since 2020, the UCI has prohibited the participation of riders registered in a UCI sports group in mixed teams.

From January 1, 2025, the UCI imposes further restrictions on mixed teams which must remain casual in its mind.

She recalls the ban on members of UCI teams from being part of them. In addition, authorization to set up a mixed team must be done on an ad hoc basis. So “the same mixed team will not be allowed to participate in more than one event per season, unless prior authorization is obtained from the UCI before confirmation of registration by the organizer“, says the new regulation.

This change could have an impact on the international Junior calendar where several mixed teams are entered with the same riders and with the name of a brand. For example, Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale U19, Groupama-FDJ Junior, the U19 Academy Région Sud Powered by Giant and Team Grenke Auto Eder are mixed teams which bring together riders from different clubs but with a fixed membership throughout the year.

In addition, the new regulations require that the name of the mixed team be composed of the riders’ club teams. On the other hand, nothing prevents the entire team from wearing the jersey with the usual partner’s advertising. Could the solution be to fire all the riders in the same club?
