RACISM – During the France-Italy match last Friday, Dominique Baviera, deputy mayor of the Var commune of La Seyne-sur-Mer, displayed racism towards Didier Deschamps’ Blues. He has since apologized.

“I made a mistake.” These are the words he used to say to Var-Matinthat the elected representative of La Seyne-sur-Mer, in the Var, tried to explain his post-controversy on Facebook, Friday evening during the defeat of the Blues against Italy (1-3). Dominique Riviera, visibly annoyed by the performance of Didier Deschamps’ players, had decided to use his social networks to explain his frustration: “85th minute. I’m stopping watching the match between the Italian team and Didier Deschamps’ reserve team from Africa. As distressing as it is unacceptable.”

Even though his message was quickly deleted, many Internet users reacted to a screenshot published on X by the LFI deputy, from the 3rd constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis, Thomas Porte.

The elected official asks for forgiveness and denies any racism

Known for his commitment to the cultural sector in the Var, Dominique Baviera is a centrist figure who joined the Radical Party and then the UDI. He was first elected in the 2000s before returning in 2020, as deputy mayor of La Seyne in charge of culture.
