Like everywhere in France, the winter season has started well in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and, with it, its share of illnesses.
The territory has actually just entered the epidemic phase regarding influenza. “The number of visits to emergency rooms for flu and flu-like illnesses has almost tripled in three weeks,” notes in this regard the ARS, in a press release.
Vaccination combined with barrier gestures remains one of the most effective weapons of protection against influenza

And it has already been four weeks since the region has been in the grip of an epidemic of bronchiolitis. “From December 9 to 15, 548 visits to the emergency room for bronchiolitis were recorded, i.e. 21% of passages in children under 2 years old compared to 15% between December 2 and 8.also underlines the health agency.
Then, when the Christmas and New Year holidays arrive, there is the risk of food poisoning.
So, how can you get good care while avoiding overcrowding the emergency room? We take stock of the right actions to adopt with the ARS Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
“Emergency departments in France and in our region see their number of patients continually increase each year, particularly as the holidays approach”assure l’ARS.
So, to avoid saturation, the health agency reminds that, in the event of poisoning, cold, fever or cough, the first reflex to have is to call a doctor. “Emergencies must remain reserved for the most serious cases”we insist at the ARS.
But, at a time when medical deserts are gaining ground, the risk is to find ourselves faced with closed practices or refusals of consultation. This is why the ARS offers an interactive map of care locations that can accommodate patients during the week and during the day, without an appointment.
Then, as a last resort, you must call 15 before going to the emergency room: at the end of the phone, the regulating doctor assesses the situation and directs you to the most appropriate recourse.
Also, the ARS Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur informs that a reinforced system will be put in place during the holidays. That, “to ensure good continuity of care.”
Thus, a strong mobilization of general practitioners in town is planned, as is the opening of on-call medical centers. There will also be a strengthening of urgent medical aid resources (Samu, firefighters, etc.) and coordination provided by Center 15.
Note, moreover, that the deployment of the Access to Care Service (SAS) throughout the regional territory since last October should make it possible to improve patient care.
“Accessible from the 15th, the SAS can allow everyone to obtain an immediate response in the event of an emergency situation or direction for support in town”indicates the ARS. According to the health agency, 20% of general practitioners per PACA department participate in the SAS.
