Frustrated on the track, Kévin Le Cunff wins gold on the road

After the two chocolate medals on the velodrome track, Kévin Le Cunff arrived with a vengeance for the road events. In his time trial, he beat his compatriot Gatien Le Rousseau to win gold in the C4 category. He will try to double the lead on Friday in the road race.

Kévin Le Cunff is starting to come to terms with it: he is a man of the great outdoors. The velodrome was perhaps not a discipline for him. Frustrated during the first week of the Paralympic Games by two fourth places on the track in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, he won the gold medal in the C4 category time trial on Wednesday for his first road race

“That’s two Olympics and four chocolate medals, it’s not a discipline for me,” said Kévin Le Cunff fatalistically on Sunday, before adding: “I’m an outside guy, I’d be better off outside.”

Three days later, in a game of reverse mirrors, he actually finished ahead of his French team mate, Gatien Le Rousseau, who had stolen bronze from him in the individual pursuit.

“I didn’t want to leave without a medal”

He will finally be able to sing the Marseillaise at the top of his lungs during the official podium: “I had time to revise it while watching my friends at the velodrome,” he jokes.
